Marko admits Ferrari's better race pace in Canada
Marko admits Ferrari's better race pace in Canada

Max Verstappen had to work hard at the end of Sunday's Canadian race to keep Carlos Sainz behind him. It was for good reason according to Helmut Marko, as the Red Bull Racing advisor told Motorsport.com that Ferrari had better race pace in Montreal. The Formula One drivers had to cope with winding weather conditions during the Canadian Grand Prix. Heavy rainfall on Saturday meant they had a tough qualifying session ahead of them, with the Dutchman coming out on top by a wide margin. Verstappen had plenty to do a day later, however, as Sainz tried to get past him in the closing stages of the race. Verstappen, however, managed to leave no spaces despite Ferrari's better race pace. Marko says the performance of the Ferrari and Red Bull cars is so close that every detail can make a difference. In Canada he believes it was down to the technical department of the Austrian team that failed to get the best out of the RB18. He stressed that it was not Ferrari that had made progress and paid Verstappen a compliment. Marko thinks back to 2016 GP Spain The Austrian was incidentally reminded of the 2016 GP of Spain, when Verstappen scored his first career victory. Indeed, back then the reigning world champion also had to keep a Ferrari driver behind him, although he then had to deal with Kimi Raikkonen.
