Verstappen stole the unofficial Suzuka lap record from Vettel
Reigning champion Max Verstappen took a surprise pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix, beating the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri who had looked untouchable before the last qualifying segment.
